Everyone woke up with the news of their sack! To many, it was long overdue! To some, it came as a surprise but in politics, especially Nigerian politics, anything can happen anytime!
As the race for the Hilltop Mansion braces for a start, lots of strategies, which have been put in place for months may begin to unfold from tomorrow!
We were equally surprised to hear the news of Mr. Bassey Albert’s sack this morning! Do you think it has to do with the 2015 gubernatorial race? Are you suspecting something funny? What connection does this have with Effiong Abia and the 6 board chairmen whose appointments have been relieved? Does this have anything to do with the meeting at Asan Ibibio today? Why sack? Were they given an option to resign?
Okay, take a look at this press released issued by Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Information and signed by the Commissioner, Mr. Aniekan Umana. Take a look!
In view of the need to reinvigorate the machinery of Government and drive further the Uncommon Transformation Programme of the State, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief (Dr) Godswill Akpabio, CON, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Accordingly, the following Commissioners have been relieved of their appointments.
1. Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan, Former Commissioner for Finance
2. Bar. Effiong Abia, Former Commissioner for Rural Development.
His Excellency has directed the affected Commissioners to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in the ministries. The Governor however thanks the former Commissioners for their contributions to the development of the State and wishes them success in their future endeavours.
Similarly, His Excellency the Governor has approved the relief of the following Board Chairmen of their appointments:
1. Obong Sunny Udom
(Former Chairman, Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company Limited, APICO)
2. Hon. Patrick Ifon
(Former Chairman, Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited)
3. Obong Dan Akai
(Former Chairman, Akwa Ibom Newspapers Corporation, AKNC)
4. Hon. Alex Nyong
(Former Chairman, Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, AKBC)
5. Hon. John Asikpo
(Former Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Management Board)
6. Abom Tony Esu
(Former Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development)
His Excellency, the Governor further thanks the affected officers for the services to the State and wishes them success in their new engagements.
It is quite obvious! Their removal is to reinvigorate the machinery of Government and drive further the Uncommon Transformation Programme of the State. This is the reason they were sacked! Shekina? Amebo, what else do you want to hear?
