Akwa Ibom State Government on Monday began the enforcement of the ban of tricycles from plying up to Ibom plaza.
It is being observed that the tricycle operators complied with the directives. At Aka Road Uyo, Keke operators were seen offloading their passengers at Etuk Street.
The situation was the same at Abak Road axis as the operators were seen loading their passengers at Udi Street and Udosen Nkanta Street.
At Ikot Ekpene Road axis tricycle operators heed to the directive although there was heavy human traffic along the road as many students of the University of Uyo who were on their way to the institution.
At Oron Road, all tricycles coming from Udo Umanah Street, Nwaniba and Oron Road did not go beyond Okokon Etuk Street.
Men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps were on hand to enforce the ban.
The general atmosphere around the plaza axis was calm as the usual congestion was not noticed, commenting on the issue, Commissioner for Transport, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh expressed happiness with the Keke operators for complying with the directive.
He said the ban was in line with international practice which restricts commercial vehicles 200 meters from the city Centre.
