Akwa United FC players this morning stormed Government House Uyo to protest non payment of their salaries and sign on fees.
According to a close source, players of the teams have been struggling to feed for the past few weeks.
This is evident in the club’s dismal performance in recent weeks. This may also be responsible for the Uyo side’s 0-1 home defeat to Heartland on Sunday at the Uyo Township Stadium.
With less than a week to wrap the current season, it’s necessary to plead on authorities to consider the plight of the players and pay their salaries and bonuses, otherwise a bulk of the team may decide to pitch tent with other clubs next season following poor funding of the side.
The players have vowed never to depart Government House, Uyo until their entitlements are paid.
A club source hinted that the players are owed three-four months salaries plus sign on fees.
This is negative development considering the planned opening of the Ultra Modern Akwa Ibom International Stadium billed for the week.
