Hon. (Barr.) Bassey Etienam – Member representing Urue Offong Oruko State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has stated that Oro nation has the right to contest for Governorship ticket in the forth-coming gubernatorial race and also for a seat in the senate come 2015.
Hon. Etienam made the statement last week while speaking with Press men in Uyo. He said that he is fit to mount the seat if the people of Oro nation and Eket Senatorial district gives him an opportunity.
He noted that he had promised his constituency a single term in office as a legislator in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and that his aspiring for the senate is based on his successful track record as a member of the fifth Assembly.
He further stressed that the last representation from Oro nation at the Senate was 30 years ago being the late Senator Victor Akan.
Hon. Etienam said Oro people are competent to lead Akwa Ibom State to its desired destination. He advised that Akwa Ibom people must eschew ethnic-related sentiments and ensure unity as tribalism hinders development.
Hon. (Barr.) Bassey Etienam – a fine gentleman, is the Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Affairs in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly said that his committee has ensured that the usual perennial fuel scarcity was a thing of the past as there have been sustained meetings with marketers which made the distribution stable across Akwa Ibom State.
He commended the fifth assembly for its people-oriented legislation which has been an added impetus to the success story of the Uncommon Transformation project in Akwa Ibom State.
Hon. Etienam whose campaign theme for the Senate is The REBIRTH 2015 stated that he would strive to ensure that issues related to the development of Eket Senatorial District as a core oil district would be addressed adequately for the improvement of lives.
Bassey Etienam inspired by his late father (NAMOBA), who lived for his community and for his people.
He said that he is taking up the challenge of sufficient commitment as his senatorial ambition would help restore the pride and hope that Eket Senatorial District can and will do better using his cognitive experience in public office and the parliament.
He further assured the people of Eket Senatorial District that he would be a servant-leader in a way that unites the state and country in confronting and surmounting the challenges of statehood and nationhood where everyone would have equal stake as emphasis would be placed on youth development, sustainable environment, quality health care, quality education, women empowerment, fight against marginalization as well as a coordinated information channel and politics of integrity and accountability.
According to the lawmaker, THE REBIRTH 2015 is “All of us are one, you will never walk alone!”
