250 Cadets of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron are to commence the mandatory one year sea time training abroad soon.
Out of this number, 150 Cadets are for marine Engineering while 100 are for nautical science.
The Federal Government is to spend N9 million on each of the Cadets during the training.
The Rector Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Mr. Joshua Okpo, stated this at the college.
The Rector explained that the essence of the training is to ensure that products of the academy meet the global requirements for engagements in the Maritime industry.
Mr. Okpo said efforts are in advanced level to upgrade the level of the academy to a degree awarding institution having secured affiliation with World Maritime Academy in Sweden.
In line with this, courses in the academy have been accredited by the National Board for Technical Education while the syllabus is also upgraded in tandem with the International Maritime Organization’s Standards.
He said 51 lecturers have also been employed between August last year and January this year while facilities are being put in place to meet new challenges.
He said the institution has taken disciplinary action against some lecturers and cadets who were involved in examination malpractice stating that the academy would not hesitate to expel any student found wanting.
