The Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District Assembly has warned that despite the overwhelming endorsement of Eket senatorial district by the rest of the state to produce the next governor come 2015, no aspirant from the district should expect to be given the ticket on a platter.
Accordingly the Assembly has advised all aspirants from the district to step up the tempo of consultations on major stakeholders across the entire senatorial districts of the state.
This was part of the decision taken by the assembly in a meeting of her steering committee presided over by the Chairman, Chief Nduese Essien in Eket.
Chief Nduese Essien further stated that the Assembly does not intend to endorse any aspirant before the party gubernatorial primaries since it is the responsibility of the political party to select through a democratic process a candidate for the party.
The assembly assures the aspirants of her resolve to continue to work for the realization of Governor of the state come 2015 to come from the Eket senatorial district.
It would be recalled that Chief Nduese last month refuted a report in a section of the media that the Assembly had endorsed three aspirants from the district ahead of the governorship election.
He advised indigenes of the senatorial district against being complacent; adding that without a committed show of seriousness and support from the other two senatorial districts, the idea of producing a governor from Eket senatorial district may remain a mirage.
He however assured the entire state that Eket Senatorial District has more than enough qualified sons and daughters who are capable of stepping into the large shoes of Governor Godswill Akpabio come 2015.
