As part of efforts to augment the power supply being received from the national grid, the Lagos State Government is poised to inaugurate another Independent Power Plant that will ensure constant power supply to a number of public institutions and streets in the state.
The 8.8MW power plant, which is located at Ikeja, will ensure 24-hour uninterrupted electric power supply to a number of public institutions including the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja High Court Complex, Old Secretariat Complex, Ikeja Water Works and guarantee over 20 km of public lighting to select streets around Ikeja, according to the state commissioner for energy and mineral resources, Taofiq Tijani.
He said the state would inaugurate another 5.5MW IPP around Lekki by the end of the year or latest in the first quarter of 2015, adding that it would bring the total capacity of IPPs in the state to 47 MW.
