Financial Misappropriation: Mysterious Fire Outbreak at Ogun Finance Office

At a time when the financial status of Ogun state is under public scrutiny with on going investigation by the state house of assembly over the alleged mismanagement of allocations and undue exposure of the state to loans and debts, the state ministry of finance was few days ago suddenly engulfed in a mysterious fire outbreak.

The fire which was said to have started from the office of the Accountant General and took the intervention of civil servants and the state fire service before it could be put off.

The extent of damage caused by the fire could not be immediately ascertained as officials of the ministry said they were still cross checking files and documents.

Last week the state commissioner for finance and her ministry of works counterpart appeared before the state house of assembly over a request made by the state governor for approval to access 19billion naira from five commercial banks.

The house however could not reach a unanimous decision as questions on the true picture of the state debt and loan profiles were not answered satisfactorily by the commissioners.

Cases challenging the financial status of the state are still pending before a Federal High Court in Abeokuta.
